Skeleton Woman
As a Myth of Wholeness
We're in a time of crisis, and some of us need empowering practices to keep strong, grounded, and able to withstand whatever news or chaos might come our way. Depth practices, or “soul work,” is the focus of this experiential program. The myth of Skeleton Woman (and The Fisherman), featured in Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, 1989, is an ancient Canadian Inuit tribal story. It’s a powerful symbolic medium that the deep parts of the psyche can understand.

Let’s explore this myth together and see how it might be possible for us to develop the power to stand whole and strong when things crumble around us.
Featured in our explorations is sensing into the archetypal energies of the Divine Feminine and the Sacred Masculine, which are a part of the psyche of each individual. If these archetypes are psychologically balanced in a “sacred union”, we can tune into inner wholeness.
This program can open up awareness of where “Shadow-Work” is needed. If you are in a position to help others, this program might give you ideas of self-help practices to teach and encourage. Social isolation has played a part in our cultural descent into chaos; community and consciousness-raising are inherent in this program and will help strengthen us.
A short didactic presentation on Jung's anatomy of the human psyche will help put attendees in the framework for the exploration techniques, which include:
- Viewing a home-produced narrated video of the Skeleton Woman myth with music and archetypal images
- Grounding meditation techniques
- Artwork practice, based on Jung’s Red Book personal journal (supplies provided)
- Small and large group processing
- Demonstration of the combination of Jung’s technique of active imagination with eye-movement therapy
- Action-planning for self-practices for transpersonal growth
This is a lot to pack into a 9-hour program, so it’s pertinent for attendees to be on time, bring snacks and brown bag lunch, and adhere to the strict schedule.(The take-aways will inspire you so you can practice freely at your own pace going forward.)
